We've been very busy getting Chrissy's new bungalow ready for her.
She is on her way there now. Very excited!
Long-time readers of this blog will know what a fight we've had to get to this stage in her life. She spent over four years in an assessment & treatment unit, & now she's ready to face the world again.
Let's hope the world is ready for Chrissy!
Fingers crossed that she will fall in love with her lovely new bungalow on the outskirts of Winchester city centre. It's going to be a huge change from living on a locked ward. She will have two carers with her at all times, which will enable her to live as independently as she can.

Thank you for visiting my blog. These are stories of the unique issues faced by people with learning disabilities and their families, inspired by my experiences of parenting Chrissy, who was diagnosed with the rare chromosome disorder, 1q21.1 microdeletion, in her twenties. If you're wondering if counselling could help you with the challenges that you face in parenting someone with additional needs, contact me: info@janealcockcounselling.co.uk
Hi Jane, I was wondering how you and Chrissy were getting on. You're gone from my facebook and hardly on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased she's found a new home. It must be such a relief. I hope she's doing OK and the carers pull out all the stops to give Chrissy a good quality of life, God knows she deserves it. xx
Thank you Michelle! A few teething problems but hoping they'll pass & lead to a much more fulfilling life. Tough adjustment to make. Keeping everything crossed. Hope all is well with you & your family xxx

ReplyDeleteHi Sam,
ReplyDeleteIt's great to hear that you are offering support to your sister. I have set up a Facebook group. If your sister wants to put in a request to join I will add her. https://www.facebook.com/groups/509708135744820/ There is lots of information on there. Also, has she joined Unique (the rare chromosome disorder support group)? They have a leaflet on 1q21.1 microdeletion. http://www.rarechromo.org/information/Chromosome%20%201/1q21.1%20Microdeletions%20FTNP.pdf Hope this helps.
Jane x
Thank u yes he an his dad have been added to unique data base and sis will join support group. I information her of your group she ha sent u a request today name is Michelle ward X I believe there are now only 69 people with this rare disorder ? Thanks so much for your assistance I know from my own experience that support is so essential my son was diagnosed ADHD many years ago when not a lot was known about it X
ReplyDeleteI've added her thanks Sam. Hope she finds it helpful. I think there are far more than 69 people with this disorder - more than that diagnosed now, & a huge amount that aren't I suspect.
